Points needed from Somerset visit
By by Jim Stark
Cowdenbeath travel to Somerset Park this Saturday knowing that they must take something from the game.
Ayr United have had a decent run recently but it came to an end against the Barrs Irn Bru Second Division leaders Ross County last weekend.
Ayr are still involved in the fight to avoid the second bottom play-off spot in the table and Cowden could dent their confidence this weekend.
But the Fifers will have to play a lot better than they did against Berwick Rangers.
Assistant manager Danny Lennon said after the game that too few players produced top form and that was simply not good enough.
He said, “We had hoped that we could get the three points against Berwick and improve our position but our defeat and Queen’s Park’s win at Brechin put us back into second bottom slot on Saturday night.
“It really was a disappointing performance and the players knew at full-time that they had let the club down.
“The important thing is that the situation is still in our own hands but we need better performances from our top players”.
Cowden’s recent record at Somerset Park is not bad at all and in December the Fifers won 4-1 there.
But the assistant manager is just hoping that the team can cut out the mistakes that cost his team a result on Saturday.
He added, “From our point of view both Berwick goals were poor to lose. We gave them far too much time and space and that is not good enough.
“At the other end we seemed unable to pick up the pace, especially late in the game when we were chasing an equaliser and we will need to improve all round in the coming games”.
David Bingham may be fit for Saturday and Bryan Gilfillan will be back in the line-up.
