Cowdenbeath Football Club’s new board has pledged to overhaul the way it operates.

At a meeting with businesses and community groups, Commercial Director Stuart Juner admitted mistakes had been made in the past.

He outlined his ambition for club and asked the community to get on board.

“Cowdenbeath has to better than what it has been in the past...on every level that we can think of,” he told the meeting.

“What we’re looking to do is establish links with the community. I’m a local Cowdenbeath guy. As a supporter I’ve been on the terraces and hurled abuse at Cowdenbeath players, visiting players, referees.

My heart is very much with this football club and I want, along with my fellow board members, to do what we can, when we can, to take it forward.”

Club secretary, Ewan Dow, said the club’s new owners are also keen to drive the club on.

He told the meeting: “Innovate Cowdenbeath are now the driving force behind the club, trying to bring things forward, not just for the club itself but for the community as a whole.

“They’re your usual property developers – they also have an eye on the property line – however, they are also aware of the fact that to succeed with any developments, they also need the support of the community, the councillors and the support of the local planning department.

That’s great in that they will push not just this club, but Cowdenbeath itself and the surrounding towns and villages like Lochgelly and Kelty.

“One of the things we’re keen on as a board is not just Cowdenbeath Football Club purely as a third division football club hopefully gaining promotion to the second division, we also want to see Cowdenbeath taking a role in community leadership.”

Mr Juner, added: “We do realise there is a lot of work still to be done until we achieve our final aim of seeing the club established as a full community club. The next step will be for us to talk individually to businesses and organisations who attended on Thursday, establish their priorities, needs and ambitions and see how we as a club can help them meet them.”

“In the the next few weeks we shall hold a follow-up meeting for all interested businesses and organisations and indeed for anyone who was unable to attend our first meeting.”

I am a Cowdenbeath born supporter of the club and I have lived in Honduras for the past 36 years. Via the Internet I am now able to follow the team,s results and, believe me, it helps tremendously to be able to celebrate their wins, although it be from afar. I am very interested in maintaining contact with the team and the renovations that are being applied, and I would appreciate receiving any information that you may be able to send. All the best for Cowden and their supporters.
