Too sexy for the street?
By Peter Swindon
A Kelty couple who sold sexy lingerie to Jordan and supplied sultry dresses to stars of the new James Bond film have been told they can’t set up shop in Dunfermline because their stock is too racy.
Robert and Wilma Chrystal, of Blair Street, currently sell outfits from their website - sexylittlenumbers.co.uk.
But plans to open a retail outlet were blocked by Kingsgate Centre bosses who said they’re simply too sexy for the High Street.
“I don’t understand it,” said mother-of-five Wilma (44). “There are some things we sell that are daring but if you go into Anne Summers you can get a pair of crotchless knickers. We don’t sell anything like that at all.
“I think they are trying to say we are rather down market but I would say we are actually quite classy.”
A spokeswoman for the Kingsgate, which sits adjacent to a lap dancing club, said the centre is a “family environment”.
“Sexy Little Numbers was deemed inappropriate for the vacant unit due to the nature of its business,” she added.
Wilma and Robert have sold outfits to a host of stars since the website was launched in 2004.
“Jordan bought a hot pink micro G-string,” said Wilma. “I didn’t know who she was at the time – she was just a normal customer to me – but I’m sure she looks great in it. Any woman would.
“Two months ago we supplied a dress to the set of the new James Bond film. That was exciting.
“And an order has just come in from Dame Edna Everage.”
“We’ve got dozens of famous clients. Most of them order under pseudonyms. But I know who they because I often meet them at events.”
Wilma and Robert are determined to open a shop in Dunfermline and are eyeing vacant units in the town’s High Street and Bruce Street.
“The kind of individual clothing Sexy Little Numbers sells is exactly what Dunfermline needs,” Robert added. “Many of them are one-off. It’s not mass produced clothes.”
Pictured are local girls who agreed to model outfits after Robert and Wilma approached them in Kelty and Cowdenbeath and explained their dilemma the day before our photographer took the snap.
