Cllr Rowley

Lochs councillor Alex Rowley is set to meet with two top officers in the Cowdenbeath Police Subdivision to discuss force numbers in Kelty.

Councillor Rowley last week expressed concern at acts of vandalism which had taken place at Central Park, the home of Kelty Hearts.

He aired his worries that too few officers were being asked to police the village and that factor was aiding the wreckers in their wanton acts.

At Thursday's meeting of the village community council Community Inspector Ken Stickings, head of the Subdivision, expressed his regret at the vandalism which had taken place at the football ground.

He added that vandalism was one of the more difficult crimes to detect and he urged people to report incidents which they came across and all matters of concern.

Inspector Stickings also said that the force's mobile CCTV van would be in Kelty this month which could be used to monitor problem areas.

Inspector Stickings added that he would always like to see more police officers in communities such as Kelty but that actual numbers Fife Constabulary had were determined by the Scottish Government at Holyrood.

Councillor Rowley said that both Benarty and Cardenden, two places with roughly the same size of population as Kelty, had larger presences based at the police stations in the heart of the communities.

He would like to see similar numbers in Kelty and he agreed to meet with Inspector Stickings and Western Division's Chief Inspector Nicola Harkness to discuss officer levels.

Councillor Rowley said this week, "I hope to be able to put the case for increased numbers in Kelty for it is a growing population we have here.

"It is also important that the community play their role by reporting all incidents of vandalism and anti-social behaviour.

"The victims of these sort of offences suffer a great deal of stress and need the help of the community".
