Jailed for brutal attack

Printer Print Article

A Crosshill man was jailed for attacking a Polish man in the village's Main Street.

Edward Connelly (22), of Inchgall Avenue, admitted at Dunfermline Sheriff Court that on 18th March he assaulted Lukasz Wrzesinski.

He repeatedly struck the complainer on the legs and buttocks with a knife to his injury.

The Court heard that Polish man Mr Wrzesinski and a friend had gone to collect a mobile phone on 18th March.

A scuffle broke out between Mr Wrzesinski and a friend of accused. Connelly then appeared carrying a knife and became involved in the argument.

Witnesses were concerned with what was developing and called the police but it was not until afterwards that Mr Wrzesinski realised that he had been stabbed. His wounds were described as 'superficial' requiring a few stitches.

An agent on behalf of Connelly said that his client had been suffering from depression and at the time of the attack was drinking quite heavily.

He was with a friend when the altercation occurred and stepped into help him. The knife had fallen out of someone else's pocket and he tried to frighten the Polish man away by brandishing it. When that failed he struck him with it.

He very much regretted what had taken place in Crosshill that day.

Jailing him for 19 months, Sheriff Craig McSherry told Connelly that had he not pleaded guilty the sentence would have been longer.
